OIG Initiatives Increase Demand for Panacea Professional Physician Consulting Services
- Written by Becky Rodrian
Considering the increasing number of audits being performed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (HHS OIG), physician documentation is imperative to support codes being billed. Panacea Healthcare Solutions has been performing multi-specialty, physician-owned and coding company documentation reviews, offering education of providers, billing staff, coders and compliance departments to ensure that documentation supports the level of service billed.
Recently we performed physician and coder reviews and education in Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nevada (just to name a few), with accuracy rates steadily increasing. These facilities are conducting reviews at a minimum of once annually, and thanks in part to Panacea’s education, providers have seen their overall coding accuracy rates climb as high as 96 percent from year to year. Clients who perform semi-annual reviews have seen their accuracy rates climb at an even higher rate.
Panacea also has helped numerous clients with developing compliance policies that meet documentation guidelines set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), also creating electronic medical record templates and evaluating office policies and procedures to ensure that all billable charges are captured.
