For the Week of November 24, 2014
Are 64-slice scanners required for coronary computed tomographic angiography (CTA)?
Unfortunately, there is not a one-size-fits-all answer for this question. Medicare does not have a national requirement. Most, but not all, Medicare contractors require 64 detectors/slices. Some individual contractors do, and many of these are the same, but not all. Most non-Medicare payers also require 64 slices. Please check with your payers for their requirements.
